What is the teaching practice program?

The teaching practice at Human Academy Japanese Language School meets all of the guidelines for teaching practice in the revised report on the training and development of Japanese language education personnel issued by the Japanese Language Subcommittee of the Council for Cultural Affairs.

Our school's Japanese language education aims to develop human resources who can function as members of society. Because working members of society require not only the ability to "understand" but also the ability to "be able to do," we have established the following teaching principles.

  • The course content is structured and evaluated based on the principles of the CEFR.
  • Lessons are based on an action-centered approach, and students are trained to develop Japanese language skills that can be used in the real world.
  • We practice "active lessons" in which students take the lead and act independently.
  • We create an environment where students can learn actively and autonomously through peer learning.

Teaching Practice Program Overview

Educational Policy

With the goal of "developing learner proficiency," the school aims to practice active learning by conducting learner-centered lessons through collaborative learning. The classroom is a place where learners can learn independently and autonomously, and where they can advance their learning by communicating with each other in Japanese. The teacher sets up this space, that is, a place where collaborative learning can occur, and supports the learners' activities there.

Comments from participants

  • I was taught enthusiastically in small classes. I had heard from people who had done internships elsewhere, but I'm glad I chose Human Academy!
    (University A, 2019 student Y)
  • I was glad to experience a lesson that started with a situation rather than introducing grammar.
    (S, student at University A, 2019)
  • Instead of relying solely on rote oral practice, I began to think about lesson plans while incorporating demonstrations.
    (Mr. H, student at University A, 2019)
  • I was overwhelmed by the extensive development of teaching materials and the consistent philosophy and beliefs. It made me want to grow even more as a Japanese language teacher.
    (Mr. I, student at University A, 2019)
  • The knowledge I learned about Japanese language education at university made sense to me and my understanding deepened.
Whenever I had questions, I was able to get answers from current teachers right away. I was able to learn about how teachers move and how they give instructions to students.
    (KH, University B student, 2020)
  • This was an opportunity to rethink teaching. At Human, we don't just "convey things in detail,"
With an eye to the learners' future, I believe the purpose of this program is to "cultivate not only Japanese language skills but also the perspectives and attitudes necessary for daily life and work."
(YN, student at University B, 2020)
  • I didn't have time to worry about it frantically every day, and the five days passed by in a flash, making for a very fulfilling experience.
It was unfortunate that I was unable to experience face-to-face classes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but I was able to learn how to conduct online and hybrid classes.
    (YH, University B, 2020 student)
