When I first arrived in Japan six months ago, I knew nothing about the country and couldn't speak Japanese. As you can imagine, I was excited to experience a new culture and start campus life in Tokyo, but I still felt very anxious. Who should I ask for help if I need it? Who should I talk to if I'm confused or lost about Japanese culture? Unfortunately, I soon realized that most Japanese people don't speak English. This means it can be difficult to ask for help.

However, I quickly found the right place to always support students like me: your school's administrative office. Typically, in Japanese universities, each department has its own office that handles the day-to-day management of applications, admission registration, course arrangements, scholarship applications, etc. Furthermore, keep in mind that your school's office is more than an administrative body; it is definitely not "bureaucracy."

Looking back on my first few days at university, I am not confused or worried about Japanese culture, but rather fully prepared to study at university. This is exactly what my school's administration brought. Everyone in the administration welcomed us warmly, paid sincere attention to our questions, and answered them to the best of their ability. After enrollment, my school's administration continues to help new students. Every time I go there, I feel at ease because of the warm and kind welcome I receive from the administration.

I was welcomed by the administrative staff on the day I enrolled. To my surprise, she spoke perfect English, and the other staff members also spoke English. Without a language barrier, we had a relaxed atmosphere and talked about many things. Our topics ranged from school facilities and school clubs to the Japanese language and culture. Previously, I rarely spoke with administrative staff, who were administrative figures to me. In addition to this frank conversation, our school's administrative staff also held a welcome party for all new students. At the party, we were able to introduce ourselves and have fun eating, drinking, and having fun. Most importantly, I was able to become friends with the administrative staff through the party.

I believe that after reading this article, you will have a new image of Japanese school administration. They are responsible and will support you in having a wonderful school life. If you have any problems with your school life, please feel free to talk to them. When you walk through the administration door, they will say, "Hello, is there something I can help you with?"
